Like the Plains Indians, we only take
prime winter hides when they are thick and woolly. There are only
a few hundred of these prime winter hides each year, so the supply
is definitely limited. While the Plains Indians use the time honored
"brain tan" to produce their robes, today we use natural
vegetable tanning agents: no harsh or toxic chemicals. This natural
tanning method produces soft, pliable buckskin type leather.
At the tannery, we treat the buffalo hide the same as a mink or
fox destined for a fur coat. After tanning and fur dressing, the
hides are measured, trimmed and carefully inspected. Only first
class hides are destined for use as robes. Buffalo Robes make beautiful
rugs, whether in front of the fireplace in a log cabin or on top
of wall-to-wall carpeting in a formal living room. Best of all,
they make cuddly throw rugs for couch potatoes, or beautiful bedspreads
or blankets for those really cold nights. Of course they can be
used in the traditional Plains Indian style as a personal robe and
they make magnificent wall decorations. The Buffalo Robe is certainly
versatile and it seems everyone falls in love with his robe.
This is a major purchase and to help you own a magnificent American
Buffalo Robe, we have an easy monthly lay-away plan. |
